Raton Pass - Last Cool Air of the Summer

The next day we moved to Raton Pass Campground. YAY! We found one last blast of cool weather here probably only because of the 7,857 ft altitude. We stayed on the upper level in the middle. If the park is full you’ll have a better view if you stay on the outside edge because your view of the mountains won’t be blocked. There used to be a Cafe on the grounds but it is no longer in operation. We loved our stay here.

There were SO many hummingbirds here. We also saw a white throated swift feeding babies in a box nest. Also park staff notified us to be careful and not leave out garbage as a bear was frequenting the area. We never saw it though.

We got a warning on our diesel truck that the exhaust filter needed to be replaced right away. After watching videos and reading articles though we saw that it may just need to be driven to clear it out. We went on a 20 mile drive which seemed to work.

Next we move to the Corral RV Park in Dalhart, TX.
